Hi friends! We have an announcement for you...Alleyoop, in its current state, is closing. However, it will only be temporarily closed, and is about to become something even better.
Alleyoop is being donated to Getting Out and Staying Out (GOSO). This is an awesome Harlem-based not for profit that empowers justice-involved and at-risk young men with educational opportunities, meaningful employment and social and emotional wellbeing. So many of these young men, almost entirely of color, are held back and harmed growing up in over-policed yet under-served communities. Justice involvement for them means additional trauma, stigma and exclusion by society before even reaching adulthood. These young men are working hard every day to make a better life for themselves and their families. They deserve a society that, rather than writing them off, is invested in and supports their successes. These young men possess incredible talent and have so much to offer that we will ALL be better off and stronger for their contributions and success.
So we are passing Alleyoop along… yes, we’re alleyooping Alleyoop. GOSO will put to use the inventory, supplies and our existing socially-minded supporters to build programming that will give its participants extraordinary experiential learning opportunities in e-commerce and entrepreneurship – all with sustainability, the necessary way of the future, at the forefront. Second chances are at the heart of both Alleyoop and GOSO’s missions, so this match feels just right.
We thank you all so much for the support and encouragement you have shown this small business every step of the way. It has meant the world.
